We provide investment management services for a diverse group of 26 Alberta public sector funds. The range of duties we provide for them include:
In the past, our clients have given us a very prescriptive set of investment instructions. That policy has changed as more and more importance has been assigned to the role played by risk. We now consult with our partners on risk and risk tolerance and discuss how to translate that risk tolerance into broad allocations to equities, bonds and real return assets.
Based on these discussions, we conduct a global search for the best opportunities within these asset classes. We then create a portfolio for each client that reflects a mutually agreed upon risk and return strategy.
The two major categories of clients, as defined by the range of asset classes in which they invest are "balanced funds" and "government funds".
A large portion of AIMCo assets under management come from Alberta public sector pension plans and provincial endowment funds. We invest these funds in a full range of asset classes that include money market, fixed income, equities and inflation sensitive.
Other assets under management come from a variety of "Government Funds" which are generally invested in money market and fixed income securities.
